My Son
(And My Best Friend)

It seems that not so long ago
My son was born to me.
As I examined, fingers, toes,
Were as I’d hoped they’d be.
I watched him grow up through
the years
Through baseball, soccer, track,
Till one day from his boyish face,
A young man’s eyes looked back.
The thought then struck me,
"Where’d he go? Is this his
childhood’s end?"
And then I saw that I’d just met,
My son and my best friend.
